Frequently asked questions

Why do Spanish names often have two surnames?

Spanish convention uses paternal surname first, maternal surname second (Pedro Garcia Lopez = paternal Garcia, maternal Lopez). Children inherit both. We generate single surnames by default; combine two for full traditional form.

Are these names Castilian Spanish or broader Hispanic?

The pool is broad-Hispanic - works equally for Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, etc. Regional variants exist (Catalan vs. Castilian) but the names ship recognizable across the Spanish-speaking world.

How do I do period Spanish names?

For pre-1500 Iberia, mix in Old Roman names (Pompeius, Aurelia) and Arabic-influenced Andalusi names. For Golden Age Spain (1492-1700), classical Spanish (Diego, Isabella) works as is.
